Metamorphic Rocks

Today we created metamorphic rocks. In the slide-show below, you see how we first made sedimentary rocks (cookie dough) by adding layers and layers and of course PRESSURE!
Next we added minerals (chocolate chips and nuts). We then cooked the sedimentary rocks (adding HEAT). The rocks hardened and we created METAMORPHIC ROCKS! They were delicious!
Also in the pictures below you can see all of the fourth grade class and the other fourth grade teachers. These three teachers have amazing ideas and are always willing to share!

Here is the recipe:

Metamorphic Magic Cookie Recipe

1 cup butter or margarine softened
1 ½ cup light brown sugar
½ cup sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 ¼ cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips
¾ cup peanut butter chips
¾ cup butterscotch chip
½ cup pecan pieces
½ cup walnut pieces
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease baking sheets.
Cream butter and sugars. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Combine dry
ingredients and gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in
chips and nuts
Bake 10 –12 minutes.
